Overview

This activity forms part of a Level 6 unit which students use to explore a particular type of tourist such as mass tourist, independent, tourist and reflect on the impact of this style of tourism on the environment. Qantim, the Qantas airlines plane schedule software, is a tool students use to develop their own travel plans.

Students may work through the Qantim tutorial as a stand alone activity or the activity could be used as an integral part of a unit on tourism. How this activity is approached will have assessment implications. The assessment details described below test the understanding of the Qantim tutorial only.

    Classroom Management

Ideally each travel group should have access to the Internet.

The Qantim tutorial should take half a lesson. If students use this software package to develop their own travel plans, the second itinerary would take half a lesson, but the students must know where they want to go and how long they want to stay.

If this activity is being undertaken as part of a topic on tourism some groups could be researching the other aspects about their travel plans besides the itinerary. This lessens demands on the computers in the classroom
